How Not To Arrange Your Furniture?

Ever walk into a house or an apartment and think wow that is a lot of space. How do you arrange all your furniture? What is the best way to do it? After all, you do want to be able to maximize the space you have. So here is just a small list of things you might want to think about before placing your furniture in your home.

One of the big mistakes people make is that they push all their furniture against the wall. However, when having a conversation you probably like to sit close to the person you are talking to, so you can hear them right? So try and make sure that your couches are close together. Perhaps use your couch as a room divider if you have an open space. Something similar as shown in the picture above. No one likes to have a conversation where they have to shout across the room to the other person.

Everyone loves to snuggle up on the sofa and read a good book. What will help with reading a good book is the amount of light coming into the room. Putting the sofa near the window to have some natural sunlight when reading is a great idea. Sitting in a dark corner when trying to read is not only not good for your eyes but is not the most sensible place for your couch.

The window is an important feature in any room. It brings in so much natural light. Therefore, blocking it with your couch, bookshelf or TV isn’t a great idea. Also, try not to put a bookshelf in the corner so it blocks out some of the windows. You want to make the most of the light coming in from the windows. You can also make the window a focal point of the room by putting the couch opposite it. Just to remember that putting the TV opposite the window will give a glare on the screen. Making it harder to watch your favorite TV show.

Where do you sit and watch TV in your home? The couch right? In order to do that you need to put your TV somewhere practical so you don’t have to strain your neck to watch your favorite show. Put the TV at eye level with the couch. Just because there is room for the TV above the fireplace does not mean that is the most practical place for it.

Other things not to do when designing the layout of your living room is to buy an overly large rug or a small rug that doesn’t fit the space. Make sure your rug is proportional to the space between the couch and wall, or both couches, whatever you may have in your home.

Finally, when designing your home think practical. Will the couch work in this space or better in a different place? Where will we be able to walk around? Where can the children play and where can we place the toy cabinet? Yes, your home can look gorgeous and there are ways to do that whilst making it practical all at the same time.
