It’s All About The Kitchen!

Here we’re going to talk about every detail you need to think of when designing your kitchen. The list may seem endless and overwhelming but hopefully, it’ll help you design the perfect kitchen for you and your family. A kitchen that you’ll actually want to spend time in.

Seating:

First, let’s talk about seating. Not only is the kitchen a place to make the food but you also need a place to sit and eat it. Do you have a place in or near the kitchen to put a table and chairs in? Or would you rather a bar with stools to sit at? With young children in the house, it might be easier for them to climb up onto a chair rather than a bar stool. However, if you have a separate dining room in your house. You may, in your kitchen want a bar, where the stools can be tucked away underneath.

Where To Dry The Dishes?

After eating a delicious meal what will you do with your dishes? Rinse them off in the sink and then put them in the dishwasher? If you do not want to give up a cabinet to make space for a dishwasher, you can buy a small one and have it on your countertops. But you will need the countertop space to do this. Or do you have a drying rack next to your sink? This might not be the best option if you have a small amount of countertop space. Another option of having a drying rack in a cabinet above your sink. So your stack of clean dishes can be hidden away.

Appliances:

Stove And Oven:

There are few appliances to think about when designing your kitchen. Not only about where to put them in the kitchen but also the size of the appliance. Let’s start with the oven. Will you have a built-in oven or stand-alone? The advantage of a built-in oven is that you don’t need to bend down to put something in the oven. So this might be better for someone who has a bad back. For those who are religious and prefer two separate ovens, is something you have the space for?

One of the other appliances to think about is a stovetop. If you have a stand-alone oven then the stove comes with it. However, if you’re thinking about getting a built-in oven, think if you have enough countertop space to put in a stovetop. Do you need 4 rings on the stove? Or are you a person who prefers 5 rings? Having in mind 5 rings take up more space.

Tips:

  • Next to your oven, it is recommended to have some countertop space so when you take something hot out of the oven you have space to put it down right away.
  • For the stovetop as well, have some countertop space so you can have the mixing bowl next to the stove.

Fridge:

Another big appliance to think about is the fridge. Most people have this in a corner of the kitchen as it is a tall appliance. But would it be better to have it in the middle, where it might be easier to reach things if you are in the middle of cooking? Think about how big you would like your fridge to be. Also if you are someone who needs a second freezer, another appliance you might want to make space for in the kitchen if you can.

Added Items:

Some other things to think about is where to put your broom and mop. Do you have a small space next to the fridge? Or a hook in a cabinet where they can be kept? Or do you not have them in your kitchen at all?

Another appliance would be the hot plate or plata. An idea would be to make a thin draw so as to store it. Or is there a small thin space next to the fridge for it?

What about a shelf for the microwave? or a cabinet for it, so it can be hidden away. What about other electrical items? Such as a mixer, blender, toaster, kettle? Are these things you want out on the countertop or hidden away.

You may even want to add a shelf for all your recipe books. Also an idea is to add a draw with holes in it for the potatoes or onions, or other fruits or vegetables you don’t need to keep in the fridge. So as you don’t need to keep them on your countertop. Designing a kitchen can be overwhelming, with so many things to think about. Take a deep breath and we’ve got your back if you find it too much.
